Greece Travel information | About Greece

Greece enjoys a fantastic combination of sun, beautiful beaches and small coves. Colorful villages and colorful people with exquisite gastronomy and a wealth of ancient knowledge and mysticism. This is the land of the Gods. Greece offers a wide variety of options such as Island hopping, boat trips, snorkeling and scuba diving. Ancient sites to visit, delicious food to savour and some very special dancing, to try after a fair share of the local Ouzo.
Some of the bigger Islands like Corfu, Crete and Rhodes can offer both cosmopolitan and lively resoerts like , Elounda, Faliraki, Fiskardo, Paradise Beach as well as peaceful and tranquil holidays. They will offer resorts much sought after by the younger holidaymakers that seek party like atmosphere at night and lazy sea and sun during the day, and resorts of smaller fishing villages with beautiful beaches, classy tavernas and restaurants.

Like all infamous destinations, the reputation of Faliraki precedes it. Faliraki won't disappoint. Life centres along the long sandy beach, undoubtedly one of the best on the island. There are so many watersports here, including every one involving a speedboat, rope and inflatable fruit or kite. Kids and adults can all join in the fun.
Children will love the water park and the funfair in the resort too. Faliraki means you're close to everything, but not right in the thick of it. You're in a great position to compare as plentiful taxis, buses and even boats mean you can easily flit between the two. Bars and clubs vie for your patronage in the centre of town. Just like the range of food on offer in Faliraki, practically every taste is catered for. Sports and karaoke bars, British and Irish pubs - it's all here.

Lanzarote Holidays

Each island is different and yet they are all bound together by a strong sense of historical and cultural heritage formed over centuries amongst the pine clad hills and sandy beaches of this wonderful country. There is much to see on a luxury Greece holiday: wander through narrow streets of Corfu Town, visit the archaeological sites in the ancient Peloponnese, be spoilt in a luxury hotel in the upmarket resorts of Santorini and Mykonos, or just relax and watch the world go by on one of the pristine white-sand beaches dotted around Greece.
Situated approximately 200 kilometers southeast off mainland Greece, Santorini, also known as Thera, is the largest of a cluster of islands that also bears the same name. According to history, these chains of islands are the remains of an enormous volcanic explosion. Santorini is famous all over the world for its eye-catching scenery and is famous for hosting wedding ceremonies. Those who love music will recall the famous composition, `Santorini,’ composed and played on the keyboard by the famous Greek keyboardist Yanni.

Ithaca is a sleepy, rocky, little island in Greecewhere time, when not standing still, tends to wander about rather aimlessly. Apart from a small annual influx of tourists and occasional day trippers there is little to disturb the gentle, soporific atmosphere. Ithaka is almost split in two by the bay at Aetos, with large peninsulas to the north and to the south. The north has the best resorts and the more interesting walks. The south has the capital Vathi, with one of the world's largest natural harbours and important links to Homer. The western Ithaca coastline is rough and rugged with only a couple of decent beaches while the east is typified by rolling hills and lush farmland. Beaches of pebble and stone are couched in deeply carved bays and the Ithaca countryside is heartbreakingly beautiful. If you are looking for Greek island tranquillity, look no further.

Despite Greece's current economic difficulties, the fundamentals of a holiday here remain unchanged - a warm sun, some of the cleanest seas in the Med. (Greece boasted 379 Blue Flag beaches in 2010, second only to Spain), unspoiled nature and scenery, a simple island life-style, and some of the friendliest locals you could meet. Tourism is essential to Greece's future growth and everyone involved will do their very best to ensure their foreign guests have a holiday to remember. Crete is a place apart – not just another Greek island, more like a separate country. Crete lies on the same latitude as Tunisia with the same baking hot summers; but here pleasantly tempered by breezes from the sea. But the most striking aspect of this land is its people. Shaped by centuries of struggle against oppression, they are as rugged as the mountains, fiercely independent, and passionately loyal to Crete and one another. Read ‘Zorba the Greek’ for a marvellous evocation of the people and the place.
